A clean-cut Indian pilot living in America has to overcome prejudice and personal tragedy to reach his goal of becoming a military flyer. Rustom is a 1960 Indian Hindi movie directed by Homi Wadia. This film is a remake of Wadia's 1959 Punjabi movie, Pheray. The film stars Bharat Bhushan in the lead role, with Nirupa Roy and Ameeta playing other major character roles. This film was the fifth highest grossing films in India in 1961. Rustom is a 1960 Hindi movie based on a Punjabi play, Pheray, by Inderjit Badhwar. The play was also later adapted into a Punjabi film in 1959 starring Gurdas Mann. The original story by Inderjit Badhwar was about the Sikh prince Duleep Singh, who was taken from his mother and sent to England. In addition to being renamed "Rustom" for this version, the plot of the film was completely different from that of Pheray or Jangli. While the original story was about an Indian prince taken to England, Rustom is a very patriotic film about an Indian man who has to move to England in order to pursue his goal of becoming a pilot in the British Air Force. The movie was later remade in Tamil as "Moondru Pillaigal" in 1962. The film was also remade in Telugu, with Shoban Babu playing the lead role, titled "Chilukoti Chenkamma" (1961). Rustom is a well-educated young man living happily with his family. He is the youngest of three sons of wealthy property owners. His father wants him to get married, but Rustom does not want to do so, because he has no interest in getting married. One day, Rustom's uncle sends him a letter telling him that his father has passed away and that his mother is very ill. He asks Rustom to come over to India for the funeral. The next day, Rustom's mother dies while he is away in India on his uncle's request. He returns home after attending the funeral and starts grieving over her death. He forgets about military training entirely due to great sorrow of his mother's death. The film moves to a few years later when Rustom is a young man in his mid-20s. He still does not have any interest in getting married. His uncle tells him that he must get married. A marriage is arranged with an Indian girl from a respectable family. Rustom has no interest in the marriage and he refuses to marry the girl. In order for him to get married, his uncle kicks him out of the house and tells his son he is no longer his son and will disown him if they ever meet again. Rustom decides to leave India and go abroad (England) in order to pursue his interest in flying planes. cfa1e77820
